Antioxidant Rich Berry Blocks for your Dog

Not all dogs are keen on having whole berries in their meals. This is a great way to offer these super foods knowing they are going to love them.

This recipe gives you a delicious way to get extra berries into your dogs diet.

Two layered ice cube
Great for your dog, and pretty too!

My dog Delta is a little more fussy than most. She is quite particular with what she will eat, and has a very efficient way to eat around the things she doesn't want. This includes blueberries!

Delta will pick these out of her dinner to eat first!

I like to add Berries to my dogs diet to increase the antioxidant and phytonutrients in their diet. For many dogs, they will eat them up as part of the meal, but for more particular dogs, they can leave these behind. By blending these into a broth and adding in the Greek yogurt, It makes these into a tasty treat, rather than a health food they don't want to eat.

I find these Antioxidant Rich Berry Blocks a great supplement for your dog.

For dogs that don't like cold treats, or in the middle of winter, you can take them out of the freezer and allow to thaw prior to feeding.

Antioxidant Rich Berry Blocks for your Dog

Ingredients

  • 1 cup Berries. Can be Fresh or Frozen

  • 1 cup Bone Broth

  • 1/2 cup Greek Yogurt (plain coconut yogurt if dairy is not tolerated)

  • 1/2 cup Coconut water

  • 1/4 tsp spirulina

Directions

  1. Organise an area in the freezer that will fit the moulds. (I always forget this step! )

  2. Blend the Berries with the broth in a blender. They can be blended coarsely, or to a nice smooth liquid depending on what your dog likes.

  3. Pour into the bottom of the ice tray or silicon moulds. Filling around half of the mould.

  4. Stir the yogurt and the coconut water together. I added spirulina to this batch for an extra nutritional kick.

  5. Gently pour this mixture over the top of the mould. You can use a teaspoon to help reduce the pressure on the bottom layer to keep the two layers separate.

  6. Gently place in the freezer and freeze for several hours to overnight. Times will vary depending on the size of the moulds used.

I have also made up some plain berry and broth bites without the yogurt layer.
