Sheep & Cattle

"And into the field I go to lose my mind and find my soul."

I work on both individual animal consultations for livestock that have a specific health concern, and I have whole herd consultations when addressing a larger issue on a herd level. Many hobby farmers will only have a small number of stock, and these can be quite friendly, and easy to handle and dose. For larger groups of animals, the herd consultation is required, and we may need to be more creative in dosing and managing their health needs.

Most livestock have unique digestive systems, which differ greatly from dogs and cats, and even differ from the equine digestive system.

These differences in physiology can change how they metabolise different herbs and supplements.

FAQs

How can I give herbs to my cow / sheep / chicken?

If they have a good appetite, offering in a meal can be your best option. This can be more difficult for animals that are in a herd, or are not getting supplementary feeds. I have lots of tricks up my sleeve for getting animals to take herbs. Please get in touch if you have a tricky animal to administer to and we can talk about some options.

I have a health problem in my herd. Can you work on a herd level?

Yes, most definitely, we can adapt a program to work with a whole herd.

I have worked with dairy cattle with mastitis, and also with young poddy calves that have had scours run through the herd.

when working with production animals we need to also take into account any effect on production, and also any regulations around organic certification if necessary.
